I have started my back piece, it is a death angel. He has only done the main outline in my first sitting but I am very pleased with it. It will be built up over a number of sittings, this has only been done a day on the picture, but it has been 2 weeks now so i go back in 2 more weeks for the next sitting.
It will have some clouding and a moon at the top, then a number of skulls and skeleton bones all along the bottom with a hell type image to fill the area.

This is my back piece after session 2. Still a lot more to do obviously but I am really pleased with it.

That is looking like some damn fine ink.
How does it feel on something that big?

Also interested in how long are you sitting for at each session?

Wow that looks very impressive- I'd love a backpiece but think i'm too impatient i hate waiting for things to be finished!!!

Thanks. I am sitting for 4 hours of actual tattooing, for the filling in I feel I could go longer, our artist feels it`s best not to push the body though.
I am very lucky in that I really enjoy the entire experience so my artist says I block a lot of the pain, although the outlining I did find painful but you just have to accept these bits.
Once it is done it heals really quick, tends to feel slightly bruised feeling when it is cleaned, but no pain at all other than that.
This pic was taken 5 hours after finishing the second session and you can probably see it isn`t particularly sore or anything.
Thanks for the comments, am enjoying building it up and don`t actually feel impatient, gives me something to look forward to.

Nice back piece. I'm also saving my back for one big, special piece. It's the ultimate canvas, isn't it?

Keep the pics coming...

I agree, your back is your one chance to get something really effective.
For me it was a chance to have my indulgence piece too, something that nobody will see unless I show them!

I am itching like crazy as it is healing, really driving me mad!!

I am itching like crazy as it is healing, really driving me mad!!

I did some work on my lower leg this morning, that's stinging!!

I know it`s different for everyone but it seems to go through stages. I keep mine covered in cling film for 3 days to stop it drying out then just use vaseline.
It can be a bit messy at first then as it starts healing with the vaseline that`s when I get the itching.
Karl never itches at all!!

What work have you done on you on your leg? Any pictures?

Years ago, I had Marvin the Martian on my calf, only I never got it finished, I only had the outline & never went back (long story). When I started tattooing last year, I got a piece of flash that would cover it nicely - 2 dice & a pool ball wrapped in a banner. It was large shapes, little detail & block colour, so seemed like a good piece to practice with. Yeasterday I just added some shading to give it some depth, but also coloured around the "8" on the pool ball in white. The white is currently a bloody pinky colour, so will get pics up of that and other tats I've got / done soon.

Look forward to seeing the pictures.
Marvin the martian sounds good!!
I STILL itch!!! it`s healing well though, been 6 days now, should be healed in a couple more days, then just needs a few weeks of care to make sure it maintains its colour and stays looking good.
I don`t mind caring for them, a lot of people say they find it a chore, but my tattoos mean the world to me.

I thought Marvin was cool at the time, but I'm the other side of 30 now, so it's a bit kiddy! I have a custom pin-up girl on my arm, I had a horseshoe & two roses added three weeks ago, and that's still healing! The last bit of scab came off over the weekend but it's still dry & flaky. I know people who hardly apply any aftercare to their tats, I have to! At least I'm past the antiseptic stage and on the vaseline. Will be able to show it off at a family barbecue this afty!!

I know there is much debate on how to look after a tattoo. I persona as my tattoo artist tells me, as he knows the methods and inks he uses.
Mine never scab at all. When he has finished he covers it in cling film. Then every morning and every night for 3 days I take the film off, clean it with soapy water, dry it, put savlon on, then re cling film it.

When the 3 days are up,remove the film, wash it, and just apply vaseline 4 times a day, decreasing the amount over the following 2 weeks.

Mine goes all wet for the first day and plasma etc weeps a bit. Then it sort of peels, but a wet peel. After the 3 days it dries out and a little bit of dry flaky skin comes off, then within a couple of days it`s all smooth.

Karl, my husband, heels slightly differently, his is very sore at first, whereas I don`t get that, but he never itches, so he teases me because I do!!

Your tattoos sound great. I know what you mean about some seeming kiddish or whatever as you get older but it`s like anything that goes in and out of fashion.
I just have my poppies on one arm, dog collars on the other, and my back piece, well, half of it!!

Glad your tattoo is on the way to healing now so you can show it off soon!
Do you find you get positive comments about yours? Most people like Stewarts work, but some people say they are surprised I have tattoos and am `not the type`. whatever that means!!!

I never cover mine, except on the way home from that tattoo studio, mine scab up more than most, not sure why! I apply savlon for about a week, or until infection period has passed, then vaseline until fully healed. Mine don't itch either, strangely enough!!

People often comment on my tattoos, I love it. The first time I was in a tattoo studio waiting for my first inking I saw a sign that read:

"The only difference between people with tattoos and people without tattoos is that people without tattoos don't notice if you have tattoos"

It is so true...

To say you're 'not the type' that back-piece is a bold move. I admire that! Well done!

I have had about 20 hours sitting altogether, I have some tribal, a nice celtic piece, the dice / 8 ball, stars, a dragon, Kanji, my pin up, panther & a sorcerer on my chest (which is my favourite piece)

How do you get multiple pics up on here? Mods??

Well my poppies took about 4 hours, the collars about 1hr 30 and my back piece 7 hours so far.
To post multiple pictures click the reply button, at the bottom there is a `manage attachments` button, on there you can upload pictures.
Would be keen to see your tattoos.

Our artist has a similar sign up to the one you posted and it is very true.

I got my collars tattooed first as a tribute to help me cope with the loss of our 2 dogs, really enjoyed the tattoing, went back for the poppies and knew then I would like a back piece.
I thought about it a while then just went for it. My husband has 2 great tattooes, The Scream by Edvard Munch on one arm and a `Serenity` one on the other. I did put pictures of all our tattooes in my other post titled `our tattooes`. Pics were only small.

This is my photobucket link where all our tattoo pics are, amongst all the animal photos!

I never usually bruise, and there is no sign of bruising, but the large area of filling in on my back did feel a little bruised when it was done. I think everyone is different.
Oh, still itch by the way, lol!
