With kind permission of InkedAngel I am putting forward a request for research participants with an idea for a book/net book that I have been preparing.
I come from a jewish background where I have had to keep my passion about tattooing under wraps for a number of years - mainly because of negative peer pressure.
I decided to 'out my ink' whilst visiting family in Israel (my wife is israeli) the responses were varied. Some I had very positive feedback and some even went as far to spit at me in the street and throw stones.
Because of this I was geared up for writing a piece on tattooing art or taboo.
Below is a little more about my intent and what i will be asking.
I am wanting to interview tattooed people to get their story on;
Why they got tattooed. The meaning of their tattoo(es) (and pictures of it if possible). Their experiences of being tattooed within their culture and how their peers react to their ink. Any positive or negative attitudes they have had because of their tattoos.
I am keen to get a mix of cultures, walks of life, and styles of tattoos so that I can expand the insight of people who have an interest in tattooing or who have no experience of the art.
So people know what my intent is I will outline this below;
1. I do not want to infringe on any copyright or human rights. I would request that each volunteer sign a disclaimer stating that they give their permissions, for any pictures or experiences, as long as clear acknowledgement is given to the owner and/or the artist.
2. No persons under 18 years of age. The UK is very strict on the interviewing or pictures of minors.
3. There is very little prospect of any profit being made from this venture. I am doing it because I love to write. What this means is I will not be able to pay. Gracious acknowledgements and a copy of the book/net-book (if it is ever published) is what I can offer.
4. Whilst mild nudity which shows a tattoo is acceptable. I would ask that any pictures that could classed as strong pornographic not be sent. There is too many rules around the publishing of it. Also the focus of the book is about tattooes not flesh. :)
Put simply I am sure that everybody has a story linked to their ink and I would like to expand peoples' knowledge on the culture of tattooing. Also just to generally share a passion of mine (and hopefully yours).
If you are interested in participating please feel free to PM me.
Thanks
Matthew
