Hi
I have been toying for a long time now of getting a backpiece done. The design will be from this sculpture although I will likely have the positioning of the tiger modfied.
I think there is something in the way the artist has captured the dragon.
Thoughts welcome.

thats a really nice design, one of my tats is based on the sculpture of the 3 graces.

Thank-you for that - many people sort of looked at me as though I was mad when I said I wanted to get a tatoo of that sculpture.
I guess I just fell in love with the image.
I am hoping to have it started around Feb 09 as will likley set me back a couple of thousand and I would prefer to have it done in a straight set of sittings.

Hi All,
Well now that I had some health screening tests done and they came back ok I can make a start on my backpiece. Looks like it will be started within 2 weeks fingers crossed.
I did the first 3 chapters of my book and the editor just tore them apart - good job I am thick skinned. Apparently she felt it was 'too narrow an audience'. (Meaning she is after something that you could show your granny without fretting :)).
From my past dealings she would like everything to be all sweetness and light and as I pointed out - the idea is to look at the taboo of tattooing as well as the positives and nice pics.
Anyhow back to drawing board but will have something shortly.
For all of you who have contributed - many thanks.
I am always open to having more experiences and pcitures so if interested drop me a PM.
Take Care

Hi I finally got my backpiece started.
First sitting was 3 hours and back in 2 weeks to add other half of waterfall and tiger then start on dragon scales.
Tattoo is a couple of hours old.
I cannot seem to get image shack to work so will find an alternate link host and post up :(
Thanks
Matthew

That looks like it will be stunning as a tattoo.
Can't wait to see it:)
Are you keeping the dragon and tiger gold? Be interesting to see how that turns out if you do, Ive never seen a gold tattoo.
Good Luck

Hi Peeps
Well I have pics from the first sitting and have just had the second sitting this last friday past so will pots up pics of the first sitting and get some shots of the second sitting.
That tattoo really evolved into a much more complex piece than the first idea - the artist pointed out I had a lot of back to cover. :p
I will be honest it has caused some proper discomfort - but will be worth it.
I am torn between black n shade and colour on this one.
Feedback welcome and constructive criticism welcome.

The second half of the waterfall has been added so have the scales and the tiger.
Thanks

WOW that is looking amazing!
Personally, I think I would have it in colour, a design as elaborate as that, I think, would be wasted in black and grey/shaded.
Just my humble opinion :)
Can't wait to see the finished product!

Looking really good. I personally like the black and grey and think it can be very effective. I had the same advice about my back piece, that there is a lot of area to cover and did exactly the same, ended up with it more elaborate.
Do you plan to have any shading around the edge, clouding or something, perhaps that could have a sliught colour to it, I have seen that work well on other tattoos and it sets off the original image without detracting from it.
I found it a bit painful on my back too. So far I think it is looking really good and to be honest, I don`t think you can plan too much something like this, as you said, it just evolves as you go along! When is your next sitting? Look forward to more pictures.

Hi Peeps
Here is some basic shots from my second sitting. It is 6 days old and still a bit tender.
@ Scarlett I think I am going to have some hints of colour added and will def go for shading on the clouds and maybe some mist rising/wrapping around the dragon.
Thanks for the support!

It is looking really good! Do you have any idea how many sittings it will take? Mine has taken 6 so far but we really didn`t know how many it would be.
I love the fact that you have really gone for this in a big way, filling the space.
I think some people go for smaller then regret it later when it`s too late because nothing else ties in as well.
Keep the pictures coming after each session!!

Hi Scarlett
Thanks for the complimentary!
I think we had it pegged at around 10 sessions (30 hours) maybe a little less or more depends on how it flows really.
The colouring and shading always takes much longer than outline I have found.

That`s good because I find the outline most painful!
I have had about 24 hours so far but that includes discussion time and setting up.
Seeing yours evolve makes me look forward to my next session next week.
I bet once some shading is added to yours it will completely transform it too, that`s why it`s always good to take pictures of the progress stages!

Here is an update of the 4th sitting. I just had the 5th sitting today (15 hours into it).
I will post up the new pic when it has healed a bit (had the dragon finished barring eyes and horns)

Looking brilliant. The colour has changed it so much! A work in progress is always intriguing, mine is one sitting away from completion now and I can`t wait.
At least the colouring in isn`t painful!
